Overview

This Wiki goes through the process of creating and publishing a Live Performance article on KDHX.org. It assumes you have an admin/manager account for the back end of Joomla/K2.

Getting started

Use multiple tabs in Firefox on the Mac for best results. Never use the back arrow on Firefox while working in the back end of KDHX.org.

Log in to the back end of KDHX.org

Click the Add New Item button.

Complete the Title field: Band Name 0/0/00

Ignore Title Alias

Choose Live Performance from the category drop down.

Add some tags: Artist Name, genre, Genre Live at KDHX, Live at KDHX, Live at KDHX 2015

Click No for Published (for now)

Leave Featured as No (for now)

Working with text

Write all your text in a plain text editor. Short lede (30 words or so), that draws the reader in and mentions the band/artist's name.

Compose a body text of 100-200 words. Use AP style. If you have multiple paragraphs, make sure you have no indents and a clean double space break between them. Your plain text doc should look like this when you are done composing:

http://wiki.kdhx.org/index.php?title=File:Clean-copy.jpg

Follow these guidelines for style and content:

http://wiki.kdhx.org/index.php?title=Live_performance_article_overview

Do not merely regurgitate or copy a Wikipedia page or an official bio or any other published source. If you rely heavily on outside sources, you must give a citation.

Run your text through the cleanup tool:

http://jhy.io/tools/convert-word-to-plain-text

Paste in your text using the Paste as plain text icon in the tool bar (it's the one immediately to the left of the little icon with the W; don't use the W icon).

Highlight the band/artist name in the lede text window and insert the raw KDHX tag URL as a link. Use the little chain icon to do so.

index.php?option=com_k2&lang=en&tag=NAME&task=tag&view=itemlist

Replace NAME with the artist name. Do not use &; use and instead. Separate words with +

Bob+Dylan The+Grateful+Dead Belle+and+Sebastian

At this point you should Apply your changes, so you don't lose them. Click the Apply button in the upper right. Page will refresh.

Working with the Meta

On the right side, locate the author if the author is not you. You will need to search by First name, but remove the first letter of the name when you search: ohn aul ary ick etc.

Ignore Author Alias.

Choose Special for Access Level (for now). This will allow you to preview it on KDHX.org before making it Public.

For Creation date and Start publishing date alone for now.

Fill out Metadata Information, following these guidelines:

http://wiki.kdhx.org/index.php?title=Live_at_kdhx_meta_information

Ignore everything below Keywords.

Working with the image

Locate a publicity image for the band. Check their Facebook Profile or Cover albums. Check publicist or label websites or offical band website. Only use "official" images. You may also search KDHX.org for concert photos of bands, especially local bands, for options.

Image size should be neatly cropped to 508x170. Use Photoshop, Preview (Mac) or Pixlr.com to edit your image.

When your cropped image is saved on your computer, use the Image tab in the tool bar, browse for it, and then add a credit. Either the name of the photographer if known or the short version of the URL of the page where you found it: facebook.com/band, riotactmedia.com, bobdylan.com

Skip caption.

Working with the Soundcloud embed code

Copy the embed code from the Soundcloud set. Go to the Media tab. Paste code in to the Media Player Player Code window.

Adjust height and color parameters so 1) the color is correct and 2) the size is correct, based on these guidelines:

http://wiki.kdhx.org/index.php?title=Publishing_Live_Performance_Audio_to_Soundcloud#PUBLISHING_PARAMETERS

Apply your changes again so you don't lose your work.

Now click Yes by Published. Make sure Special is set as Access Level. Click Apply again.

Preview and double check your work!

In a separate tab, go to KDHX.org home page. Log in as an administrator on the front end by using the Login/My Account button in the uppper right. If you don't see the button there, that probably means you're already logged in.

Go to the Live Performance section of the site:

http://kdhx.org/music/live-performances

Find the article, click on it to preview it. Double check all your work. Make any adjustments and/or changes as necessary back in the editor tab.

Finalize

Back in the editor tab, make the Creation date the actual date of the session. Don't worry about the time. Just change the 2015-08-12 (or whatever) to be the actual date that the session took place. Leave Start publishing date to the current date and time. Leave Finish publishing alone (never use this).

Change the Access level to Public. If you want to feature the article on the front page, choose Yes by Featured on the left of the editor window.

Now click the Save button in the upper right. Your window will close and return you to the item list.

Only four live performance articles should be featured at any given time. So if you featured a new article, you will need to unfeature an older article at your discretion.

You should now be done and you may log out. You may want to triple check the article one more time on the live site, just to be sure everything looks good.
