This page outlines the process of photography publication in Joomla.

Requests

Concert requests are given on a first come-first serve basis. When a concert is requested, the first step is to add it to the Google Doc: Photography Assignment Calendar [1]

  • Requests are ordered by Date - Photographer - Venue - Band

Confirmation Documentation

  • Shows in Purple Font = Request sent to Publicist, Venue, Ed, Etc.
  • Shows in Red Font = 2nd Follow Up Attempt
  • Shows in Bold Font = Request Confirmed (Guest list +1 and Photography Pass)

Loop back with the photographer to verify their request and whether or not the assignment is theirs. Then remember to also contact the photographer when the show is confirmed, include the e-mail from the publicist or venue so that they can print it out and take it with them to the venue as a back-up.

Venues/Contact
Venue Contact List: [2]

Send requests for all shows 2-3 weeks before the show for all venues, with the exception of the following (and you will more than likely have to follow up within a week of the show):

  • The Fox: Angie Hawf - Send request ASAP. Tickets go fast and are very limited.
  • The Peabody: Publicist - Same as above
  • Live Nation Shows: Amy Moorehouse - Amy will accept requests at any point after the press release is issued but again, you will need to follow up as the show approaches
  • The Pageant: Publicist - Up to a month in advance of the show, follow up 1-2 weeks prior

For an example request for Publicists/Venues see the Google Doc: [3]

Venues/Contact Cont.

  • The Firebird, Blueberry Hill, 2720 Cherokee, Cicero's, Luminary Center for the Arts - Ed Vigil
  • Blueberry Hill - Does not typically require a photography pass. If Ed can not get tickets, contact the Publicist
  • Old Rock House - Erica Dieters
  • Off Broadway - Unless the photographer is new, his/her name is on a permanent list at Off Broadway. They must introduce themselves at the door as "Hi. My Name is ___________. I will be shooting photography for KDHX." However, any questions and additions to the photographer list can go to Steve Pohlman with a cc: Paul Stark

The Editing Process

Photographers submit as either resized (800 pixel) jpgs by e-mail or upload to their Flickr account.

Flickr The Photographer will send you the link to his/her Flickr album with the relevant concert photos.

  • Right click on a photo, select View All Sizes: Large
    File:FLICKRviewallsizeslarge.png
    Preferred save-as file Size
  • A new window will open, Right click on the image, Save Image as: bandname-1 in the Band Name Folder on your desktop
  • Continue with naming scheme - bandname-# until all photos are saved
  • Highlight all the photos within the folder and select "'Compress # Items"
    File:PHOTOPUBLISHcompressfiles.png
    Archive.zip Compressed
  • The archive.zip file will appear in the folder

E-Mail Submission

  • Download the images, then drag and drop the images selected to the Band Name Folder on your desktop. Rename them the same way done for Flickr photos: bandname-1, etc.
  • Once completed the folder will appear in your Downloads, select 7-15 photos, drag each photo to the Band Name Folder on your desktop
  • Highlight all the photos within the folder and select Compress # Items
  • The archive.zip file will appear in the folder

Editing in Photoshop

Main Image

  • The main image in music news must be 6x4, once you have chosen the image you want, you need to make sure that it is the correct dimensions. To ensure this open the photo in Photoshop.
    • To open a photo in Photoshop: From the File Menu select Open or Right Click on the photo within the Band Name photo and select Open With and Photoshop
    • Now that you are in Photoshop, select the crop tool from the menu bar on the left hand side
    • You can constrain dimensions at the top of the page
      File:PHOTOSHOPcropandconstrain.jpg
      Photoshop Crop and Constrain Option
    • Save the Image as bandname4x6.jpg

Batch Compressing to 800px

  • Once you have selected the 7-15 photographs for the gallery you will need to compress them to 800px (Only if the individual photographs are larger than 300KB)
  • From the File drop down menu in Photoshop select Scripts and Image Processor...
    File:PHOTOSHOPscriptsimageprocessor.png
    Remove Uncompressed Files
    • Select Folder will allow you to chose the Band Name folder on your desktop
    • Settings: Save as JPEG and Resize to Fit should be checked
    • W: 800 / H: 800
    • Click run and the process will begin
  • Once the JPEG folder appears in the Band Name Folder
  • Highlight and trash all the previous image files, leaving the JPEG folder intact
  • Now compress the individual picture images into a .zip
  • Rename the file bandname.zip
