Assisting Engineer Training Checklist

Primary responsibility: ASSIST! Stay out of the way until asked, and then move quickly. Help usher the band and their equipment in, cases and personal belongings out to the hallway, and show them the locations of our restrooms and kitchen area. 2nd: watch levels and record playback. Keep an eye on recording levels, and double check that recording is rolling. Inform the primary engineer if levels are approaching or are in RED. 3rd: markers in record session per track, and listening retake notes Please hold general questions until an ideal time – likely after recording.

Knowledge of the space to go over in training: (take notes!)

A. Signal Paths: how XLR and TRS receptacles are labeled and used

B. Mic Closet: how to collapse mic stands how to wrap cables where things go

C. Outboard Gear: Patch Bays CDR ADAT FX Monitoring System

D. Mixer: use of PFL (solo) Gain Digital; IN EQ Auxes (pre/post) FX (on board) Compressors (on board)

E. Pitfalls: channel assignments for LR,12,34 record from channels 31,32 via Subs 34

F. ProTools Authoring/Remix training – handled separately
