Before You Begin

  •  We assume you have been registered to edit the new K2 KDHX Web site.

Move an article

  1. In Tab 1, find an article that has not been moved already (check them off as you go on the printed list) and click the title or the Read more link.
  2. Select and copy all the text, omitting the title, jpg, date and author name. Just copy the review text.
  3. Now go to Tab 2, log in, and at the Control Panel, click Add and Item.
  4. Make sure you hide the WYSIWYG Editor in both the first and the second editor windows. You should not see the little tool bar with B, I, U icons etc. If you do, click “show/hide editor” to make it go away.
  5. In the second editor window, with the WYSIWYG editor hidden, paste in your text.
  6. Now, cut the first paragraph from this window, and paste it up in the top editor window (which again has the WYSIWYG editor hidden).
  7. At the beginning of this paragraph text (the teaser or lead, type a Paragraph tag <p> at the start of the text. At the end of this paragraph, type </p>.
  8. Now go down to second editor window. Type <p> at the start of the first paragraph. Then at the end, type </p><p>
  9. Copy this </p><p> and paste it in at THE END of each paragraph in this window.
  10. At the very end of the very last paragraph, just remove the last <p>.

Title and categorize

Fill in the Title field. Come up with something clever and descriptive, that matches whether the review is positive or negative. Use AP Style for capitalization (all words but the first are lower case, unless they are proper nouns):

Hamlet faces identity crisis at the Theatre Guild Playhouse. St. Louis Symphony challenges audiences with 1000 guitar army. Young Frankenstein experiment fails at Fox Theatre.
  1. Be playful and enticing but not too silly, and try to reflect whether the review is positive or negative.
  2. Do not enter a title alias
  3. Add some relevant tags. Name of play or movie or performance, name of director, name of playwright or composer, genre (drama, classical, comedy, opera, whatever). 5-10 tags is a good number.
  4. Choose the relevant category. Music, theatre etc goes under Reviews > Performing Arts Reviews. Movies under Reviews > Movie reviews.
  5. Now click on Extra Fields. Fill these out as much as possible. Theatre would be where the play or performance took place. For movies you can add Tivoli or Landmark Cinema, or AMC if you want. Google the theatre and include the URL, or copy the URL for the theatre from the original article in Tab 1. Find the director by googling or got to the original review in Tab 1 and search for “direct” and that might help you find it on that page. Include a Web site for the performance or movie if you can find it via Google. Include the Runs Through date which should be in the original article in Tab 1. If not, leave blank. Leave Event link blank for now.
  6. At this point you should click the Green swoosh arrow for Apply changes in the upper right corner.

Create appropriate metadata

  1. On the right hand side, choose the Author. The Author should be included in the original article in Tab 1.
  2. For Creation Date, use 1 month before the first date listed on the original article in Tab 1 (the date should be right above the “Written by” in bold). Don't worry about the time, just make sure the first part of the date has this format: 2010-MM-DD (2010-04-21, 2010-03-02 etc).
  3. Fill out Metadata Information. For description, just copy the lead paragraph for now and paste it in. Or, if the lead paragraph is not informative enough, compose a summary to include, that has relevant information about the review (director, name of play, etc). Keywords can be the same as your tags.

Uploading an image

  1. In Tab 4, do some creative googling. See if you can find an original image from the performance. Look for nice big images and preferably rectangular or square. Save it to your computer and then crop it to approximately 600 pixels wide if it is a large image. 25) Now upload it by clicking on Image just above the first editor window. Browse for your image on your hard drive and give the Image a credit in the credit field. Credit should be in this format:
Name of Web Site Where You Found Image/Name of Photographer or Graphic Artist

If you don't have one of those, just include what credit information you can find.

  1. You are done! Click the Save icon in the upper right.

Verify your article

  1. Go to Tab 3, and click on Reviews at the top of the main menu. You should see your review published there!
  2. Check off the article from the printed list and move on to the next one.
