Suggestions for locating images

For Film Reviews, try Googling the official movie website and grab a still. You might also check the movie's Facebook page, as those often have good quality, large photos that are easily downloaded.

For Theatre Reviews, you may have to get creative. Consider contacting the theatre company by e-mail or Facebook, and request a high resolution image at least 600x400 pixels. Often, the company will get back to you the same day.

The sites listed below may have thematically related images that can be used if you simply cannot find anything suitable elsewhere.

Important: Do not merely steal images from the internet! If the photo is not "publicity" related to the production, is not in the public domain, or is not sensibly covered by "free use," do not use it in a KDHX article.

Photo websites

www.flickr.com/photos/sara_photos - this is a good resource from KDHX staff photographer, Sara Finke, who does great work and has given KDHX blanket permission to use her photos, as long as she is credited.

commons.wikimedia.org - database of freely usable media files.

www.flickr.com/commons - public photo archives.

www.flickr.com/groups/freeuse - free use photos. (You may need to log into Flickr in order to save these images to your computer.)

www.sxc.hu - free library of stock photos. (You will need to sign up for a free account.) When searching, ignore the “premium” images and use the "community" images. Use images that say “Standard Restrictions apply,” those are the images that can be freely used.

www.dotgovwatch.com - copyright-free photo libraries with photos taken by U.S. Government employees as part of their official duty.

www.publicdomainpictures.net - public domain pictures.

www.morguefile.com - free photo archive by creatives, for creatives.

www.everystockphoto.com - free stock photos.

www.pdphoto.org - free public domain photo database.

www.openphoto.net - photos to be used free of charge under terms of Creative Commons licensing.

www.freedigitalphotos.net - free stock photos and illustrations

www.picfindr.com - free use stock photos.

Photo editing tool

www.pixlr.com/editor - if you need a photo editing tool, this free online image editor works very well.

Note: Avoid increasing the size of a small image by more than 30 pixels to get it to a size of 600x400. If you increase the size too much, you will pixelate and distort the image.

Background textures

If you need to help flesh out a smaller image, you may use one of the following background textures:
